User Guide for AVAILACAL Availability Calendars
AVAILACAL Availability calendars are probably the simplest way to share availability information via the internet. There is no software to install. To set-up an
AVAILACAL availability calendar all you need is an AVAILACAL account for one or more calendars. (If you don't have an account yet you can experiment with the free live demo, a fully functional AVAILACAL account with ten calendars).
This user guide explains how to use, configure and update AVAILACAL calendars. Further discussion on items such as display options and FAQs can be found in the
Support Area.
Either kind of calendar can be embedded in a web page as shown above, or instead they can be made to pop-up in a new window opon clicking a link like this or like this. Both types of calendar have a password box which allows an authorized person to access to the administration controls for that calendar. The password box in the table-based calendar is the pale box on the left below the calendar (scroll down to see it). After entering the correct password pressing the enter key on the keyboard completes the login procedure. On the Flash type calendar, clicking briskly on the AVAILACAL logo reveals the calendar Key, the log-in box is then revealed by clicking the AVAILACAL logo below the key, clicking OK to log in. A calendar account holder with more than one calendar has a master password which permits full management of all the calendars in the account. In addition to being able to create and/or delete calendars and set-up various display options the account holder can create a calendar-specific password for each calendar. These passwords will allow other persons to edit the date information only for the specific calendar(s) relevant to them. For example: A booking agent representing various different landlords may issue passwords to allow individual landlords to administrate the availability dates on the calendar(s) relating only to their own property.
The actions that can be applied are as follows...
It possible to change the text in any calendar's Key for the green and red dates as well as for the orange dates. For example: For an office or store, green could mean "Open" and red; "Closed". There is a guide for changing the Key text in each calendar's Calendar Management / Advanced Options screen. Note that on the Administration Control Panel the Show x Months links are there to allow you (the calendar administrator) to see more or fewer months on your computer. They do not affect how the calendar is displayed to other internet users. If you wish to adjust the number of months shown when calendars are displayed to other internet users instructions on how to do this can be found in the Support Area of this web site. Calendar ManagementThe Calendar Management functions provide greater control over all of the calendars in an account, including the ability to create and delete calendars. The account's master password is required to access these functions. Calendar-specific passwords do not allow access to the Calendar Management functions. To access the Calendar Management Control Panel, log-in to availacal.com/login with your account name and master password, or, if you are already logged-in, click the link marked 'Manage Calendars' shown in the Calendar Administration panel. The Calendar Management screen lists all the active calendars in the account and shows how many new calendars can be added. (Again this is just an illustration here. It doesn't do anything.) ![]() To create a new calendar, click Add or Remove Calendar. A box will appear near the top of the page. Simply enter a name for the new calendar in the box as shown below then click Do It. You can then immediately start adding dates to the new calendar or return to the Calendar Management panel to set Advanced Options (see below) or add more calendars etc. If you need to remove a calendar, the process is the same as adding a calendar except that you must enter the text DELETEyesDELETE before the exact name of the calendar you want to delete. (e.g. DELETEyesDELETERiverview Cottage). Removing a calendar is an irreversible process. You cannot get the calendar data back once you have deleted it. The The The dark blue text beginning http... is a URL link to the calendar (table-based version). This is the link to be used in your web page etc. to identify the calendar. It may be useful to copy and paste the link. The link address for the Flash type calendar is exactly the same except for one letter, for the Flash type calendar simply replace the part of the link which says /ac.asp with /fc.asp. The Advanced Options ScreenEach calendar has its own Advanced Options Screen, accessed from the Calendar Management area. Calendar-specific passwords do not permit access to it. The Advanced Options Screens allow the account owner to...Instructions for each of the options are provided on the Advanced Options screen itself. Other Advanced OptionsIn addition to the adjustments possible on the Advanced Options Screen, adjustments can be made to a calendar's address string to achieve different results. Because these changes affect only that actual calendar display it is perfectly possible, for example, to have the very same calendar displayed on different web sites yet looking quite different on each one (perhaps to blend-in better with the page design of each site). You can... See the Support Area for details and examples. Setting the size of the Flash calendars. The size of the Flash type of calendar automatically adjusts proportionally to the space provided for it. Its size is typically constrained by the either the height or width of a browser window, HTML frame, Iframe, table cell, or division. The border, margin, padding and spacing settings of these elements will also tend to affect the resulting size. Basically you can make it at any size you want, from tiny to full-screen. Check the Support Area for examples. WAP FUNCTIONALITYWAP stands for Wireless Application Protocol. WAP is low bandwidth data transfer system, popularly used for internet access on older types for mobile devices such as cellphones and PDAs. The AVAILACAL calendar system has special functionality to work with these devices, however, because all AVAILACAL calendars are designed for excellent bandwidth efficiency and browser and operating system compatibility, most newer portable internet devices now support full access to AVAILACAL calendars without the need to use this special WAP capability. Consequently the rest of this section will probably only be of interest if you, or someone else needs mobile access to your calendar(s) using portable internet device which cannot provide internet connectivity without using WAP.For a detailed guide to the WAP functions click here. |
